60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Wednesday 16 May 2012 - Naval Service detain fishing vessel.

The Naval Service Vessel LE Aisling has detained a Spanish registered fishing vessel approximately 175 nautical miles off the coast of Mizen Head, Kerry last night.

The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of technical fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently under escort by the LE Aisling to Castletownbere and is expected to arrive alongside at 1pm this afternoon; the vessel will then be handed over to the Gardai.

The Naval Service have carried out 498 boardings, issued 25 warnings and detained eight vessels so far in 2012 and carried out 1,313 boardings and eight detentions of vessels off the Irish Coast in 2011.
