60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Wednesday 05 September 2012 - Naval Service Detain Fishing Vessel off the South Coast.

The Naval Service vessel L.É. AOIFE detained an Irish registered fishing vessel today approx 60 miles south east of Roches Point, County Cork. The detention was in relation to alleged under-recording of catch and other alleged breaches of fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently under escort by the L.É. AOIFE to Cobh where it is expected to arrive later this evening; the vessel will then be handed over to the Gardaí­.

The Naval Service has carried out 1014 inspections, issued 36 vessel warnings for 42 infringements detected and detained 15 vessels for 39 detected infringements so far in 2012.
