60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Tuesday, 27th June 2017 - Defence Forces Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Suspect Device in Cabra, Co. Dublin.

Earlier today, a Defence Forces Bomb Disposal Team made safe a suspect Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Cabra, Co. Dublin. 

The Defence Forces deployed the Bomb Disposal Team on request from An Garda Síochána. A cordon was established in the surrounding area to ensure public safety.

The Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 11.30am, carried out an assessment and proceeded to make safe the suspect device. The scene was declared safe at 11.55am. 

The device was removed to a secure military installation for further examination. Material of an evidential nature will be handed over to An Garda Síochána to assist with their investigations.
