Tuesday 27 Aug 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Renders Safe Two Historical Artillery Shells.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe two (2) historical artillery shells in Dublin this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to a request from the Gardaí Síochána after the suspect objects were discovered by a construction worker at a private residence on Shelbourne Road, Dublin.

The team arrived on scene at 2.45 pm and a cordon was put in place for public safety. The exact age and type of ammunition could not be identified due to the items being badly corroded but it is believed that they may be dating back to the early twentieth century.

The items were then taken to a safe nearby location where they were made safe by means of a controlled explosion. The scene was declared safe at 5.15 pm. and the team returned to base.
