60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Tuesday 2 October 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Make Safe Old Ammunition .

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe an old piece of ammunition found by engineers doing river drainage works in Stillorgan this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the Team to the Stillorgan Grove Area following a request by Gardai shortly after 2pm.

The badly corroded projectile was found by engineers doing river drainage works, it appeared to have been in the location for a considerable period of time. The projectile was examined in situ and rendered safe for transport. It has now been brought to a secure military location for further examination.

It is expected that the projectile will be destroyed by controlled explosion later today.

The scene was declared safe shortly after 2.30pm
