Tuesday 17th October 2017 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Conduct a Controlled Explosion.

Earlier this morning, following a request from An Garda Síochána, an Army Bomb Disposal Team conducted a controlled explosion on a grenade which had failed to detonate. The grenade was discovered in the vicinity of a private residence in the Pennywell Road area of the city.

Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 1:30am. To ensure public safety, a number of houses were evacuated and a cordon was put in place for the duration of the operation. The scene was declared safe at 3:18am.

Should members of the public encounter such munitions they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána.

The Defense Forces Bomb Disposal Teams deal with other types of call-outs that would include the destruction of a traditional munitions, such as old grenades found by members of the public, unstable chemicals and suspected devices that are found to be hoaxes.
