60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Tuesday 12 September 2012 - Naval Service Detain Fishing Vessel .

The Naval Service vessel L.É. RÓISíN has detained a French registered fishing vessel approximately 170 nautical miles West of Castletownbere, Co. Cork last night.

The detention was in relation to alleged breaches of technical fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently under escort by the L.É. RÓISíN to Cork and is expected to arrive later this evening; the vessel will then be handed over to the Gardaí­.

The Naval Service have carried out 1061 boardings, issued 39 warnings and detained 16 vessels so far in 2012.
