60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Tuesday 10 April, 2012 - Naval Service detain fishing vessel.

The Naval Service Vessel LE Roisin has detained a British registered fishing vessel approximately 33 nautical miles off the coast of Mizen Head, Kerry this afternoon.

The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of technical fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently under escort by the LE Roisin to Castletownbere and is expected to arrive alongside at 9pm this evening; the vessel will then be handed over to the Gardai.

The Naval Service have carried out 426 boardings, issued 17 warnings and detained four vessels so far in 2012 and carried out 1,313 boardings and eight detentions of vessels off the Irish Coast in 2011.
