Tuesday, 09th of May 2017 - Defence Forces Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe a Viable Device.

Last night, a Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team made safe an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Darndale, Co. Dublin.

The Defence Forces deployed the Bomb Disposal Team following a request from An Garda Síochána. To ensure public safety, a section of the N32 was closed for the duration of the operation.

The Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 9.45pm, carried out an assessment and proceeded to make the IED safe. The device was subsequently removed to a secure military installation for further examination at 10.35pm.

Material of an evidential nature will be handed over to An Garda Síochána to assist them with their investigations.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
