60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Tuesday 08 May, 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Inchicore, Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to a residential estate in the Oblate Drive area of Inchicore following a request from the Gardai.

The team arrived on scene at 00.25am and examined the device which was located outside a private residence.

The viable IED was made safe at the scene using a controlled explosion; the scene was declared safe at 01.10am.

The remains of the device have been handed over to the Gardai to assist with their investigations.
