Tuesday 06 November 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Bray, Co. Wicklow overnight.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to an area of waste ground near Ballywaltrim following a request from the Gardai; the area had been cordoned off by the Gardai and some nearby residents were evacuated.

The team arrived on scene at 10.05 pm and examined the device which was located near a lane. The viable device was rendered safe in situ by means of controlled explosion and the remains of the device were handed over to the Gardai to assist with their investigations.

The scene was declared safe at 3.40 am this morning and the team returned to base.
