60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Thursday 1st August 2013 - Naval Service come to the Assistance of Fishing Vessel .

The LÉ NIAMH responded to a request for immediate assistance from the Irish registered Fishing Vessel 'SAINT CLAIRE' approximately 80 miles west of the Dingle Peninsula yesterday evening.

The Fishing Vessel had engineering problems and was unable to generate power. The LÉ NIAMH responded and was on site within an hour.

A team boarded the vessel to assess the situation, it was subsequently taken under tow and is currently being brought to Castletownbere, West Cork, where it is expected to arrive later this evening.

All crew are safe and uninjured.
