Thursday 14 May 2015 - Three Army Bomb Disposal Teams Deployed.

Three Army Bomb Disposal Teams were deployed yesterday to assist a major Garda Sí­ochana investigation.

The First Deployment

An Army Bomb Disposal team rendered safe 2 viable Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the Mannorhamilton area of Leitrim yesterday afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team after a suspect device was found during a vehicle search by an Garda Sí­ochana.

A cordon and road closure (N16) was put in place for public safety.

The team arrived on scene at 4.15 pm. The devices were made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion. Items of an evidential nature were handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation.

The scene was declared safe at 8pm.

The Second Deployment

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe component parts of explosive device making equipment in Courtown, Wexford.

The component parts were found in during a Garda search of a private residence in Courtown yesterday evening.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety and a small number of nearby houses were evacuated.

The team arrived on scene at 5.10 pm. The component parts were made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion. Items of an evidential nature were handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation.

The scene was declared safe at 8.45 pm.

The Third Deploment

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe component parts of explosive device making equipment in Dromiskin, Co Louth.

The component parts were found during a Garda search of a private residence in Dromiskin yesterday evening.

The team arrived on scene at 1020 pm. The component parts were made safe at the scene and the explosive material was destroyed by controlled explosion. Items of an evidential nature were handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation.

The scene was declared safe at 0300 am.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
