Thursday 12th February 2015 - Commissioning Ceremony.

Minister for State at the Department of An Taoiseach and the Department of Defence, Mr. Paul Kehoe T.D, accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle will attend the Commissioning Ceremony of seventeen (17) new Irish Army Officers, one (1) Equitation Officer and four (4) Maltese Officers at the Defence Forces Training Centre, the Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare.

The nineteen male cadets and three female cadets have completed a demanding 15 months intensive training, preparing them to take up appointments as junior leaders throughout the Army and in Malta. In receiving this Presidential Commission, the new officers will take an oath of allegiance in which they will swear to be “faithful to Ireland and loyal to the Constitution”. The Maltese Cadets will receive a certificate of graduation.

The class is comprised of young people from various parts of the country and diverse backgrounds including 14 university graduates, 4 of whom have masters degrees, 3 cadets who had previous service with the Permanent Defence Forces and 3 cadets who have previous service with the Reserve Defence Forces. This class was also centrally involved in the 2014 State Ceremonial Programme including the ceremonies to commemorate the visit of the Head of State of Mozambique.
