60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Thursday 10 December 2015 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Dispose of Hoax Device.

An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team was deployed by the Defence Forces to Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry following a request from An Garda Síochána earlier today.

A cordon was put in place and several buildings including the town's courthouse and public library were evacuated. The EOD team arrived on scene at 1.15 pm and following an examination of the device declared it a hoax. The scene was declared safe at 1.48 pm. All material has been handed over to An Garda Síochána to assist them with their investigations.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
