60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Thursday 06 November 2014 - Ministerial Review of Lebanon Bound 47th Infantry Group.

Minister of State Mr Paul Kehoe T.D. accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle, will review the personnel of the 47th Infantry Group on Thursday the 06th of November in Renmore Barracks, Galway.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Kevin McCarthy, formerly Officer Commanding 1 Cathlán Coisithe, Dun Ui Mhaoilí­osa, Galway, the 181 troops of the 47th Infantry Group have been in training for the past number of weeks and are scheduled to deploy to South Lebanon later this month with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Drawn primarily from Connacht and Munster, the 47th Infantry Group will replace the 45th Infantry Group who deployed last May.

The ceremonial occasion will consist of a parade, Ministerial Inspection and address followed by a march past within the barracks. The parade will be attended by the families of 47th Infantry Group personnel and invited guests.
