Sunday 06 January 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Four Viable Improvised Explosive Devices.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe four viable Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Dundalk, Co Louth this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed to Haggerdstown, Dundalk following a request from the Gardai; the area had been cordoned off by the Gardai and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.

The team arrived on scene at 3.20 pm and examined the devices which were located inside a derelict house in a residential area.

The viable devices were made safe in situ without the need for a controlled explosion and will be removed to a secure military location for further examination.

The remains of the devices will then be handed over to the Gardai to assist with their investigations.

The scene was declared safe at 6.15 pm.
