60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Saturday 5th December - Defence Forces Deploy Troops and Vehicles.

The Defence Forces have deployed Army personnel and Vehicles to Cork and Kerry during Storm Desmond this evening following requests from the Local Authorities in the region.

A Platoon of Troops, comprising 20 personnel, and two 6X6 Troop Carrying Vehicles (TCVs) have deployed to Bandon, Co Cork, to assist in flood defence work.

6X6 TCVs and soldiers have also been deployed to Kenmare, Tralee and Bantry and will be co-located with HSE medical teams to assist them to get to medical emergencies in flooded areas if required.
