Saturday 17 Aug 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Render Viable Improvised Explosive Device Safe.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Kells, Co Meath this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the Team in response to a request from the Gardaí­ Sí­ochána after a suspect device was located on the Moynalty Road, Kells, Co Meath.

The Team arrived on scene at 4.50 pm and a cordon and traffic restrictions were put in place for public safety. The device was rendered safe in situ by means of a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 6.15 pm and the team returned to base.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
