60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Monday 12th of September, 2016 - 0900 - Defence Forces Conduct Mission Readiness Exercise.

Minister with Responsibility for Defence, Mr Paul Kehoe TD, along with Defence Forces Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral Mark Mellett DSM, will visit members of the 54th Infantry Group as they complete their Mission Readiness Exercise ahead of their deployment to the Golan Heights.

The 54th Infantry Group are entering their final phase of three months of intensive training in preparation for their forthcoming deployment to the United Nations Disengagement Observation Forces (UNDOF) in early October.

The Mission Readiness Exercise puts commanders and soldiers through a series of demanding scenarios based on potential threats that may be encountered in the mission area. Troops will be asked to secure, extract and evacuate personnel involved in a complex attack.
