60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Friday 30 March, 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team makes safe viable Improvised Explosive Device .

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Dunsink Lane, Finglas in the early hours of this morning.

The Defence Forces deployed the Team to Dunsink Lane following a request from the Gardai.
The Team arrived on scene at 00.15am and made safe the Improvised Explosive Device through the use of a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 1.40am.

This is the 48th call out for Bomb Disposal Teams so far in 2012.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old artillery shells discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
