60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Friday 09 March 2012 - Naval Service Dive Team recover body.

The body of a male has been recovered by a Naval Service Dive Team from the River Lee in Cork City this afternoon.

The Naval Service deployed the team in response to a request from the Gardai following Mallow Search and Rescue having identified a vehicle in the water using a side-scan sonar.

The team arrived on scene at 1.30pm and commenced diving operations in the River Lee in the vicinity of Kennedy Quay.

The body of a male was recovered from the vehicle at approximately 2.15pm, his remains have been brought to Cork University Hospital.
