60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Army Bomb Disposal Team Renders Old Artilery Shells Safe.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team deployed to Rossbeigh Beach, County Kerry this afternoon to deal with a number of old artillery shells found there, following a request by Gardai. The Beach is located near Glenbeigh approximately 25 km west of Killarney.

The Team arrived on scene at 12.30pm and carried out a controlled explosion which destroyed a number of shells in place. The projectiles appeared to date from the early part of the last century.

The scene was declared safe at 2pm and the Team has now returned to base.
