60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device .

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Dublin last night.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team to Killinarden in Tallaght following a request from the Gardai.

The Team arrived on scene at 8.25pm and made safe the viable IED which was found near a vehicle outside a private residence. No controlled explosion was carried out.

The device was removed to a secure military installation for further technical examination and forensic exploitation, following which it was handed over to the Gardai.

The scene was declared safe at 9.05pm and the Team returned to base.
