4 February 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Render Viable Improvised Explosive Device Safe.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on school grounds on Aughavannagh Road, Crumlin, Dublin this morning.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to a request from the Gardai after the IED was found in a remote area on the school grounds. The Team arrived on scene at 10.05 am and students in the school were moved to a safe location during the operation. A cordon was also put in place for public safety.

The device was rendered safe in situ without the need for a controlled explosion and was then moved to a secure military location for further technical examination and testing. The scene was declared safe at 11.25 am.

The device has now been confirmed as a viable IED and it will be handed over to the Gardai to assist in their investigations.
