3 Sept 2014 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Rendered Safe a Viable Improvised Explosive Device in Cootehill, Co. Cavan.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Cootehill, Co Cavan this afternoon, after a suspect device was found in a residential area by a member of the public.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety and a number of nearby houses were evacuated. The team arrived on scene at 1155 am. The device was found to be viable and was rendered safe by a controlled explosion. 

Items of an evidential nature will be handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation.

The scene was declared safe at 2.40 pm.
