60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

27th May 2017 - Defence Forces Stand Down Naval Service and Air Corps Assets.

The Defence Forces stood down Naval Service and Air Corps assets when a body was found in the search for a missing fisherman off the coast of Skerries, Co. Dublin just before 11.00am this morning.

Following a request from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre,  L.É. Orla operated as the on-scene coordinator for the large scale , multi agency search.

The search operation involved numerous search assets including the L.É. Niamh, Air Corps CASA maritime surveillance aircraft, RNLI Lifeboats, numerous local vessels, the Geological Institute RV KEARY and Garda Dive Team.
