27 March 2014 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Rendered Safe a Viable IED.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Clondalkin in the early hours of the morning.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to a request from An Garda Sí­ochána after a suspect device was found outside a private residence in the Monksfield area of Clondalkin.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety and a number of nearby houses were evacuated. The team arrived on scene at 3.30 am. The device was made safe at the scene by mean of a controlled explosion. All component parts and items of an evidential nature have now been handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation into the incident.

The scene was declared safe at 4.45 am.

This was the 34th call out of an Army Bomb Disposal Team in 2014 dealing with 15 viable devices so far this year.
