60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

26th May 2017 - Defence Forces Deploy Naval Service and Air Corps Assets.

Earlier today, the Defence Forces deployed Naval Service and Air Corps assets to assist with the search and rescue operation currently underway off the coast of Skerries, Co. Dublin.

Following a request for assistance from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre,  L.É. Orla was tasked as the on-scene coordinator in the search for a missing fisherman. The large scale search operation currently involves numerous vessels including; the L.É. Niamh, RNLI Lifeboats, numerous local vessels and the RV KEARY, which is conducting a sonar survey of the search area.

The Air Corps CASA has also been tasked to assist with the ongoing operation. The CASA has a range of search equipment on board, including forward looking infrared, and a high powered camera system.
