24th October 2012 - Ministerial Review of Lebanon bound 107 IRISHFINN Battalion .

Mr Paul Keogh, T.D., Minister of State for Defence, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Sean McCann, will review the troops of the 107 IRISHFINN Battalion at Custume Barracks, Athlone on Wednesday 24th of October at 2pm. The Lord Mayor of Athlone, Councillor Jim Henson will also be in attendance.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Dave Dignam, the 332 troops of the 107th Battalion have been in training for the past three months, and will depart for a six month tour of duty in Lebanon next month. These Irish Troops will be joined by 176 Finnish soldiers to form the IRISHFINN Battalion on deployment to Lebanon.

Drawn primarily from the 4th Western Brigade (Connacht & North West), the 107th Battalion will take over duties from the 106th Battalion, who have been in Lebanon since May this year.

The ceremonial occasion will consist a parade and march past within the barracks, which will be attended by the families of the members of the 107th Battalion and members of the public. There will be excellent photo opportunities during the ceremony and afterwards with some of the members of the 107th Battalion and their families including four father and son combinations and three sets of brothers all due to deploy.
