60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

23 October 2016 - Army Bomb Disposal Team make safe two viable IEDs.

n Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe two viable Improvised Explosive Devices  (IEDs) found at a derelict house in the Aughnaskerry area on the outskirts of Cavan Town yesterday evening.

Following a request from the Gardai, an Army Bomb Disposal Team deployed and were on scene at 8.45pm yesterday evening.

Following examination of the devices by the Bomb Disposal Team, they were found to be two viable igniferous IEDs.

The IEDs were made safe at the scene and removed to a military location for further examination, the scene was declared safe at 10.40pm.

Following a technical examination of the devices, the parts will be handed over to the Gardai for evidential purposes.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
