60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

22th April 2013 - Ministerial Review of Lebanon bound 108 IRISHFINN Battalion .

Minister for State at the Department of An Taoiseach and Defence, Mr Paul Kehoe T.D. accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Seán McCann, will review the troops of the 108 IRISHFINN Battalion at Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick on Monday 22th of April at 2pm.

The Lord Mayor of Limerick, Councillor Gerry McLoughlin will also be in attendance.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Anthony McKenna, the 332 troops of the 108th Battalion have been in training for the past three months, and will depart for a six month tour of duty in Lebanon next month. These Irish Troops will be joined by 170 Finnish.

Soldiers to form the IRISHFINN Battalion on deployment to Lebanon.

Drawn primarily from the 1 Brigade (Munster, South Leinster & Connacht), the 108th Battalion will take over duties from the 107th Battalion, who have been in Lebanon since November 2012.

The ceremonial occasion will consist of a parade and march past within the barracks, which will be attended by the families of the members of the 108th Battalion and members of the public.
