22 July 2016 - Changing of the Guard Ceremony, National Memorial, Merrion Square.

A ceremonial ‘Changing of the Guard’ will take place at the 'National Memorial to Members of the Defence Forces who died in the Service of the State' at Merrion Square, Dublin tomorrow, Saturday the 23rd of July 2016 at noon.

The ceremony will involve the ceremonial ‘Changing of the Guard’ by members of the Defence Forces, playing of the Last Post and Reveille and the raising of the National Flag.

The National Memorial was unveiled by President Mary McAleese in November 2008 and is the National Memorial to members of the Defence Forces, Óglaigh na hÉireann, who died in the service of the State. It is a place of contemplation and remembrance, where families, relatives and members of the public can reflect on the sacrifice our fallen comrades have made for Ireland.

This ceremony will be the second in a series of six ceremonies taking place at the National Memorial, each Saturday until the 20th of August 2016. Each Changing of the Guard ceremony will be conducted by two different units of the Defence Forces each week. This Saturday the ceremony will involve members of 1 Brigade Artillery Regiment, based in Collins Barracks, Cork and members of the Naval service, based in Haulbowline, Cork.
