21 November 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Rendered Safe a Viable Improvised Explosive Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Shankill this evening.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to a request from An Garda Sí­ochána after a suspect device was found at a private residence in the Woodlands Grove area of Shankill.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety, while a number of nearby houses were evacuated.

The team arrived on scene at 6.45 pm. The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and was brought to a safe military location for further examination. All component parts and evidence will be handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation into the incident.

The scene was declared safe at 7.15 pm.
