60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

18 September 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Renders Two Viable Improvised Explosive Devices Safe.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to a request from An Garda Sí­ochána after two suspect devices were found on a green field site adjacent to the river in Annacotty.

The team arrived on scene at 1 pm. After an initial assessment, the devices were confirmed as viable and were taken to a safe military location for further technical examination and exploitation. The scene was declared safe at 3 pm.

All component parts and evidence will be handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation into the incident.
