17 Jan 2015 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Render Safe a Viable IED.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Ballymun last night.

Gardaí­ Siochána requested the Army Bomb Disposal Team after a suspect device was found on a construction site in Poppintree, Ballymun.

The team arrived on scene at 7.40 pm. A cordon and traffic restrictions were put in place for public safety, while a number of nearby buildings were evacuated.

The suspect item was removed to a safe military location for further testing and the scene was declared safe at 8.30 pm. The device was later determined to have been viable.

All items of an evidential nature will be handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
