60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

16 June 2016 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Remove Component Parts of an IED.

This morning the Army Bomb Disposal Team removed component parts of an Improvised Explosive Device from Store Street, Co. Dublin.

The Defence Forces deployed the Army Bomb Disposal Team in response to a request from An Garda Síochána.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 06.50am, where an assessment was made on the components. The area was cordoned off in the interest of public safety. The component parts were removed to a safe military installation for further examination.

The scene was declared safe at 07.30am.

All items of an evidential nature will been handed to An Garda Síochána to assist them with further investigations.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
