60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

02 December 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Destroys Old Artillery Ammunition.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe an old artillery shell found in a scrap metal yard in Ranelagh, Dublin this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed a team to Ranelagh following a request from the Gardai.

The badly corroded artillery shell was discovered by an employee whilst examining scap metal handed in by a member of the public.

The team arrived on scene at 2.15pm and examined the artillery shell in situ. The shell was then rendered safe for transportation and brought to a military location for later destruction by controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 3pm.
