An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe an old artillery shell found in a scrap metal yard in Ranelagh, Dublin this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed a team to Ranelagh following a request from the Gardai.

The badly corroded artillery shell was discovered by an employee whilst examining scap metal handed in by a member of the public.

The team arrived on scene at 2.15pm and examined the artillery shell in situ. The shell was then rendered safe for transportation and brought to a military location for later destruction by controlled explosion.
