Army Bomb Disposal Team carries out controlled explosion on suspicious device in Athlone

An Army Bomb disposal Team carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious device in the Marine View area of Athlone this afternoon. A subsequent examination of the device concluded that it was an elaborate hoax.
The team arrived on scene at 3.05pm in response to a request by the Gardai.
The all clear was given at 4.25pm.
