Army Bomb Disposal Team Make Safe Two Viable Improvised Explosive Devices in Athlone
An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe two viable improvised explosive devices (I.E.D.’s) in two separate business premises in Athlone today. Following a request from the Gardai an Army Bomb Disposal Team deployed to the Irishtown area of Athlone Town to examine two suspect devices, following an examination of both devices if was decided that they should be made safe and removed to a safe location for further examination.
On further detailed examination the devices were deemed viable by the Bomb Disposal Officer and the remains have been handed over to the Gardai for their investigation. The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 10.20 am and the scene was declared safe at 11.25. These are the sixth and seventh viable improvised explosive devices (I.E.D.’s) made safe by Army Bomb Disposal Teams so far this year.
