Defence Forces Commisioning
20 January, 2010

Minister of Defence Mr. Willie O’Dea T.D., accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Dave Ashe will attend the commissioning ceremony of 35 new officers being commissioned at the Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare on Thursday 21 January, 2010 at 3.00 p.m.
The five female and 30 male cadets have completed a very busy, challenging and rewarding 15 months basic officer training to take up appointments as junior leaders throughout the army. In receiving this Presidential commission the new officers will take an oath of allegiance in which they will swear to be “faithful to Ireland and loyal to the Constitution”.
With 16 graduates, eight with Reserve Defence Forces experience, a former stockbroker, a former teacher and a former solicitor the 85 Cadet Class has a broad background and will be challenged by their new careers as junior leaders in the Defence Forces both at home and serving abroad in the name of peace.
