Naval Service makes first detention of 2010
15 January, 2010

The Naval Vessel L.E.NIAMH has made the Naval Service’s first detention of 2010. At 7pm yesterday evening (14 Jan 10), a boarding party from the ship detained the Spanish fishing vessel, NOVO ALBORADA approximately 100 nautical miles west of the Aran Islands for allegedly fishing in a special area of conservation (SAC).
At the moment the ship is escorting the detained fishing into Galway where she is due to enter the docks at 3:30pm today (15 Jan 10).
This detention comes two days after the ship was searching for lost containers off the South East coasts, a busy week for the NIAMH looking after Ireland’s interests at sea.
