Defence Forces Careers
Apprentices
Technicians provide the maintenance and servicing of Defence Forces weapons and equipment. Apprentices or trainee technicians undergo technical training a 3rd level institute as well as in the Defence Forces for 4 years. Defence Forces apprenticeships qualify under the FAS guidelines.
Apprentices in the Defence Forces receive training for their chosen trade, as well as military training.
Air Corps apprentices train at the Technical Training School in Baldonnel. All apprenticeships in the Defence Forces are recognised by FAS. On completion of training, apprentices are assigned to units and can expect to progress upwards through the non-commissioned ranks.
