60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Tuesday 24 October 2017 - Defence Forces Remove Suspicious Device.

The Defence Forces deployed an Army Bomb Disposal Team to Finglas Garda Station following a request from Gardai to assess a suspicious device.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 3.40 pm where they conducted an assessment of the device.

The device was made safe at the scene and has now been removed for further examination and exploitation at a secure military location.

The scene was declared safe at 5pm.

The Defense Forces Bomb Disposal Teams deal with other types of call-outs that would include the destruction of a traditional munitions, such as old grenades found by members of the public, unstable chemicals and suspected devices that are found to be hoaxes.
