Army Weapons - 105mm Howitzer

The 105mm light gun entered service in 1981 to replace the 25 pounder gun. Also known as "The 105" it is a howitzer type artillery weapon. Howitzers are distinguished from other types of artillery weapons by their trajectory in that they tend to fire at high angles and deliver plunging fire.
The Defence Forces deploy the 105 howitzer in the fire support role in support of the Infantry and cavalry.
The 105mm light gun is operated by Field Artillery units of the Army (PDF).
