Scorpion Armoured Reconnaisance Vehicle

The Scorpion Combat Vehicle Recconaissance - Tracked was developed by the British Army who required a small highly maneuverable vehicle for its reconnaisance regiments. The Scorpion began production in the early 1970s and was first brought into service with the Irish Defence Forces in 1980.

The Scorpion has a crew of three (commander, gunner, and driver) and is powered by a Jaguar engine that gives it a maximum speed of 70 kilometres per hour in both forward and reverse. It is an extremely maneuverable vehicle over rough terrain due to its tracks and can also be transported and dropped by air.

The Scorpion main armament is a 76 mm, rifled gun and it has maximum tactical range of 2400 metres. The Scorpion is also armed with a 7.62 mm coaxial mounted machine gun as a secondary armament.
