The AML 20 first came into service with the Defence Forces as the AML 60, but was refitted in 1999 with a new turret housing a new 20 mm gun. It was first deployed by the Defence Forces during our involvement with UNIFIL
The AML 20 has a crew of three (commander, gunner, and driver) and is powered by a Peugeot engine giving it a top speed of 70 kilometres per hour.
The AML 20 has a main armament of a 20 mm, rifled gun with a maximum tactical range of 6770 metres and can fire up to 750 rounds per minute. The AML 90 is also armed with a 7.62 coaxial-mounted machine gun as a secondary armament.
A laser range finder and image intensifying sight is also fitted for enhancing target acquisition and targetting.
